Institute for Women’s Health has multiple locations in the San Antonio area. It serves girls and women of reproductive age as well as women going through menopause. When it comes to healthcare for women, experts recommend that a girl start visiting a gynecologist when she is between 13 and 15 years old. During her first visit, the gynecologist will perform a physical and talk about her development. The gynecologist will also treat any problems affecting the patient’s menstrual cycle and advise her about sex.
What is Robotic Surgery?
Robotic surgery is more accurately described as “robot-assisted surgery,” for a human surgeon uses the da Vinci surgical system to perform the operation. The surgeon will use a special console with a monitor and use hand and foot controls to operate the robotic arms wielding the surgical tools.
The surgeon will be able to operate with greater precision than they would during a conventional procedure. The patient will, therefore, experience less discomfort and recover more quickly.
Robotic surgery can be used to treat many conditions related to healthcare for women. Examples include the following:
• Uterine fibroids
• Prolapse of the bladder or uterus
• Urinary incontinence
What Contraceptives are Offered?
The following contraceptives are provided:
• Oral contraceptives
• Injectable hormones
• Surgical sterilization
• Nuva Ring
The Nuva Ring is a flexible ring that the patient places in the vagina. It emits hormones that prevent the ovaries from releasing any eggs. The patient will wear the ring for three weeks and remove it during their period. A week later, she will use a new ring.
Nexplanon is a rod-shaped implant that the doctor will place in the patient’s upper arm. It releases hormones that prevent the ovaries from releasing eggs and keeps the sperm from reaching any eggs. It works for about three or four years.
The institute does offer a few services not related to reproductive healthcare for women. For example, they offer the following vaccines:
